Epson Inkjet Printer Buyer’s Guide

Back to Inkjet Articles

Unlike all other major inkjet printer manufacturers, Epson uses piezo-electric technology instead of thermal technology to transfer ink from the print head to the page. Epson’s printers, therefore, are distinct from all other inkjet printers on the market and one should weigh the relative costs and benefits of the two technologies when thinking about buying an inkjet printer. Epson divides its inkjet printers into three main categories: personal, office, and photo.

Personal
This category includes the Stylus C60, C42UX, and C62, ranging in price from $59 to $99. These printers offer at least 2,880 x 720 dpi and at least 12 ppm for black text.

Office
This category includes the Stylus C80, C82, C80N, and C80WN, ranging in price from $129 to $449. These printers offer at least 2,880 x 720 dpi and at least 20 ppm for black text. They all also offer multiple connectivity options, including USB and Ethernet connections.

Photo
This category includes the Stylus Photo 820, 785EPX, 890, 925, 960, 1280, 2200, and 2000P. These printers range in price from $99 to $899. Some of these printers don’t require a computer: you can plug your digital camera directly into the printer. Several can print on large (13″ x 19″) or roll paper, or with six-color inks or specialty inks.
